Text-ile Concept Chair: Makes Good Use Of Old Keyboards

Image
Text-ile Concept Chair: Makes Good Use Of Old Keyboards Designed by Dante Bonuccelli for the 2009 UMUL Project (Use More, Use Less) the Text-ile chair is made from discarded keyboards, and might actually be just as comfortable for touch typists as it is for hunt-and-peck types. Of course the comfort level depends on the type of keyboard being used, and if this chair ever goes into production I’m sure there will be a dedicated group who refuse to sit in it unless it’s made from an old IBM buckling spring model.

Canon Rebel T1i / 500D unboxed

Image
Canon Rebel T1i / 500D unboxed Sure, we've already seen a couple video clips, but Canon's new EOS Rebel T1i / 500D certainly deserves a proper unboxing, don't you think? Nothing you probably don't already know if you're into this cam, but we will say the menu screen looks a little nicer than on previous models. Hit the read links for the full rundown.

Balloon Lamp: Elegant and Stylish

Image
Balloon Lamp: Elegant and Stylish Were it not for the $63 price tag from the Japan Trend Shop, I’d be tempted to call these clever balloon lamps a cheap way to add some stylish lighting to your crib. They use a high-intensity LED light will run for about 100 hours on the included set of lithium-ion batteries, and instead of a traditional lamp shade, they’re designed to be stuck inside an inflated balloon. Not only does it produce a soft diffuse glow, but you can use any color balloon you like, and the lack of power cord means they can be easily hung anywhere.

3Dconnexion SpacePilot Pro 3D Mouse: I doubt if it can be called 'mouse'

Image
3Dconnexion SpacePilot Pro 3D Mouse: I doubt if it can be called 'mouse' While I don’t recommend them for everyday use, 3Dconnexion’s series of Space Navigator mice are the perfect tool if you spend your days in 3D applications like Maya, 3ds Max, Softimage, AutoCad etc. The SpacePilot Pro is the latest addition to the line, and it includes the 3Dconnexion Cap (the large knob) which can be pushed, pulled, twisted and tilted allowing you to navigate a 3D interface. It’s also got a set of ‘QuickView’ Navigation keys for quickly jumping to one of 32 pre-set views as well as duplicate ESC, CTRL, ALT and SHIFT keys so you don’t have to reach over to your keyboard as much. The biggest addition though is the full-color LCD display which provides visual feedback on what the SpacePilot Pro’s function keys are currently programmed to do, or you can use it to keep an eye on your email with the included Mail applet. And since the display is powered by an open software architecture, you can...

KDDI Motion-Based Cell Phone

Image
KDDI Motion-Based Cell Phone Remembering and entering passwords in anything is a major hassle, which is why everything should have seamless biometric identification built in. Failing that, KDDI has come up with a gesture based system that at least eliminates annoying number codes. Using an accelerometer, the phone looks for a specific pattern of movements as you bring it up to your ear. These movements depend on things like arm length, muscle structure, and patterns such as holding methods and other habits. According to KDDI, the error rate is only 4%, which is easily good enough for casual use. As far as I can tell, there’s no reason why something like this couldn’t be implemented into any phone with an accelerometer, even without KDDI’s fancy arm length etc. analysis software. You just have to turn the phone on, and shake shake shake it in a particular way, and it’ll unlock. KDDI eventually plans on taking this technique a little further, allowing you to use specific motions to run ...

SciPhone Dream G2+ adds WiFi to the Android KIRF madness

Image
SciPhone Dream G2+ adds WiFi to the Android KIRF madness Months later we're still thrilled at the discovery that the original Dream G2 doesn't run the free and open Android OS, but instead a carefully built, stylus-driven clone. Well, SciPhone's Dream G2+ followup continues in that noble tradition, running with some tweaked looks and the addition of WiFi on top of what looks to be that same Android-cloning interface. It's pretty thrilling stuff, and not at all bad for the $185 asking price.

Samsung Instinct S30 at $49.99?

Image
Samsung Instinct S30 at $49.99? You never really know what to expect when fishing for a new phone at Best Buy Mobile. Go in one week, and you'll see a strikingly pink Instinct for a strikingly large amount; go in next week, and you'll see the miniaturized version of the original Instinct for under 50 bones. If a new flyer is to be believed, the Samsung Instinct S30 will be offered up for just $49.99 on contract at Best Buy, which is a whopping $80 less than what Sprint itself will supposedly ask for it on April 19th. Too good to be true? We're hoping not.

Eco Friendly Rolling Charger: It could be a cell phones charger, too

Image
Eco Friendly Rolling Charger: It could be a cell phones charger, too It is time to go green! The coming threat of global climate change is raising the awareness of environment sustainability. Yet it makes the growing popularity of green technology. Many people turn to anything that tends to be green. It seem to be more responsible if they use green technology rather that conventional ones. In the past years, there is an increasing popularity of green gadgets. From flashlight to home solar panel, it has the same goal, to reduce the dependency of fossil based energy. One of the cool, unique but very useful green gadgets is the POWERplus’ Dolphin. It is a dual purpose lightweight gadget. The first function comes from its 3LED ultra brightness flashlight. It could be easy attached to many ranges of objects using the integrated Caribina clip. Using the dolphins, you will never need to worry of out of battery. It is powered with dynamo electricity. A minute of rolling the lever will give the...

LG SV710 Suit: Just a phone called Suit

Image
LG SV710 Suit: Just a phone called Suit We can't think of any better way to imply that a phone's boring than by calling it the "Suit" -- and indeed, that's probably a pretty appropriate description for LG's latest domestic market model. The SV710 Suit is apparently designed specifically with the needs of the average businessman in mind, featuring built-in expense and travel reporting apps, an LED clock up front, and all the stuffy corporate politicking you can cram into a 14.7mm-thick shell. You'll also get a 3 megapixel camera with video recording, five totally awesome games (for those rare moments when you're not crunching numbers or packing your briefcase), and the distinct privilege of paying somewhere between 400,000 and 500,000 won (about $300 to $375).

Kyocera shows off preposterous, beautiful EOS folding OLED phone concept

Image
Kyocera shows off preposterous, beautiful EOS folding OLED phone concept We're big fans of reality and feasibility, we swear, but something like this "EOS" concept phone Kyocera was showing off at CTIA is just too good to pass up. The handset folds up into what could roughly be described as a wallet shape, but folds out into two configurations: portrait QWERTY mode (pictured), and full-on widescreen OLED display. Samsung was showing similar screen-folding folding abilities, but a much less impressive handset, at CES. Things get even wilder, tough, with Kyocera envisioning shape memory keys that can morph flat when not in use, and a kinetic charging method based on piezoelectric generators and Mary Poppins. Sure, our great grandkids are going to have a good laugh at us for thinking this is lovable, but they always were a bunch of theoretical brats. Kyocera plans on implementing some of the concept ideas into its "near future" lineup of devices. We'll see how ...

T-Mobile Unveils First 3G Sidekick LX

Image
T-Mobile Unveils First 3G Sidekick LX Sound familiar? Indeed, this isn't the first time T-Mobile has offered a Sidekick LX -- but much like last year's simply-named Sidekick, the carrier is once again carrying forward branding while totally revamping the hardware. The 2009 edition of the Sidekick LX is thoroughly new and pretty much nails every item on every Sidekick fan's wishlist: GPS, 3G data, an absolutely glorious 3.2-inch full wide VGA display, and super-tight integration with Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace. You've also got a 3.2 megapixel AF camera with LED flash, microSD expansion (T-Mobile throws a 1GB card in the box), video recording and playback (including YouTube access), stereo Bluetooth, quadband EDGE, and HSDPA 2100 for high-speed coverage when you're galavanting around Europe. The ace up T-Mobile's sleeve, though, might be Exchange ActiveSync support, which will be coming via the on-device software catalog shortly after launch. It's availabl...

Ultmost Technology 42-inch oval LCD

Image
Ultmost Technology 42-inch oval LCD There's perilously scant detail to be had here, but this puppy -- a 42-inch LCD by Ultmost Technology --was on display at the Hong Kong Electronics Fair. Called the Fuss LC-4212B, we don't know anything about its specs, pricing, or availability... but we do know that it's pretty crazy looking, and we'd like to see a little more of it.

Philips "Carousel" short shows what you're missing without Cinema 21:9 and Ambilight We'll definitely be missing Philips UltraWidescreen 21:9 display with no U.S. release in the plans, but buyers world wide who need a bit of a convincer to drop the €4,000 need only check out the new Cinema "interactive movie." The 2+ minute feature takes you through a fictional movie setup with director, FX supervisor and director of photography chiming in on the importance of cinema widescreen. The interactive bit comes into play as the viewer can switch between 16:9 and turn Ambilight on and off on a simulated screen playing the flick. Cinema 21:9 launches this month in France, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, and Russia, the trailer is embedded after the break (live demo video is here), check it out and let us know if you're ready to come out of pocket for this 2560x1080p beast.
